Most days I feel like my heart will burst. I see so much need and can only do what our limited funds allow or what we can juggle. There is never a day that I do not get multiple calls, emails, letters, begging for help for some helpless animal abandoned, tied to a tree, scheduled to die, suffering from neglect, limping with broken bones, being a burn victim, or simply living homeless. With these type animals the vetting is astronomical. Multiple heartworm treatments, cancer, ulcerated eyes, parvo,bacterial skin infections, bladder stones, chronic ear infections, tumors, even maggots in the flesh are just a few with which we have dealt in the past year.. What is the answer? Well, with Proverbs it is ,"We will fix it some way." Just so everyone knows, there are VERY few rescues who will even take this on. Most have no choice but to turn animals away. I have no condemnation of those rescues..I understand the pragmatic side, but in my heart I HAVE to find a way to continue this mission. That is not to say we can take every case, but those whom we get who need care MUST get it. I see the sad face of an animal, who by no fault of theirs, is a victim. Suffering or discomfort and mere survival are all they have known. There is NO greater joy than watching those type pets get well, get adopted, and know the feeling of a full tummy, a gentle touch, and absence of pain or fear.
Presently, we are paying off bills for 8 parvo puppies(7 survived), and by the way most puppies are put to sleep the minute parvo is even suspected..We have two female dogs with mammary tumors,one ShihTzu with an eye ulcer which will most likely end up causing us to have to surgically remove the eye, a Westie who has no hair from her neck back due to long term neglect of a skin infection,and one finishing heartworm treatment.
I know these are hard economic times for most, but I am sending this in hopes some of you know folks for whom money is not tight and who could help with our mission. We don't want one red cent sent to us. I am including a list of vets with whom we keep on going tabs and am asking that folks pay "directly" to them. I can in turn still issue a tax receipt to them so that donations can be written off (we are a 501c3 organization.) Below are a couple of pictures of two sweet babies reaping the benefits of our program. First is a mama dog who was scheduled to die today in a local shelter because she is near delivery and shelters don't have a healthy place for new borns. As I type, we have a couple of Proverbs volunteers headed to get her to a foster home where she will give birth, raise her babies, and be fixed. Next is Little Iris who needs long term skin care. She too is in a foster home. These are just a couple of examples. Please help us help them.
