We found Ellie in the middle of I40 where we were told (by several people who stopped while we caught her) that a car slowed just enough to push her out. She has been cleared by the vet, AMAZINGLY! She was microchipped, so this is a different case than usual. Her owners decided to give up ownership of this sweet girl and allow us to foster. From what we gathered, she is a year old, and has lived her whole life outdoors. It’s unclear if she was kept chained and usually escaped, or was collared. Either way, Ellie is a little confused about things like walks and the distractions that pop up! We have been working on leash manners daily. She walks like a dream, but gets very excited when there are other dogs, kids, or people that she does not have access to. We really encourage someone who wants to devote time to showing her that walks are SO cool, but that not everything has to be inspected :) Due to living outside, Ellie has had to learn things like walking up and down stairs, getting in and out of a car again, going potty on a leash, just even walking on a leash, AND that climbing onto the couch is actually amazing and totally possible! Ellie is a total love bug, and wants to give you ALL the kisses. She loves her foster sister, and seems to really thrive with another doggy companion to show her the ways of home life. She’s the perfect amount of energy when it’s time to play, and total lump when she’s done with pounce and fetch. The vet did note that her kneecap dislocates a little easier than most dogs (this is normal! That’s why dogs stretch their back legs out sometimes!) That being said, she probably won’t be your distance running buddy, but she loves walks and hikes with us! She’s a totally blank slate for training, and truly has no bad habits. She needs someone to work on leash manners further with her, and because of her life outside needs to learn to “learn”! She’s such a smart girl, and would love to learn some tricks with you! We have initiated crate training. She sleeps in her crate at night and when we are running errands. She is still a puppy, so we feel it’s safer to teach positive association with her crate than set her up for failure! She has been accident free for the more than 2 weeks that we have had her! She has no food aggression, is very dominance neutral, and never meets a stranger! I am a nanny for an almost 2 year old, and she loves to go to work with me, so she’s great with kids! We would just recommend that any adopters with small children be familiar with contitioning both the dog and child for each other’s presence and boundaries :) Lastly, Ellie has no storm phobia, fear of vacuums, and she loves the cat...just comes on a little too strong, but don’t we all sometimes?”
