Betty White has been on quite the journey. Please take a few minutes to read her backstory to see how much she deserves a home with a place on the couch.
First, her backstory:
Betty White ended up at MACC as a stray. No one came to claim her. She was in sad shape. Her ears were so badly infected that it looked like cauliflower coming out of her ears. She attempted to scratch them on any hard surface resulting in scratches and sores on her face. MACC reached out to Proverbs for help.
Betty was on medication for her ears when – surprise – she turned out to be pregnant. The medication was suspended while she had her puppies. She was rushed back to the vet because delivery was too slow. Luckily, she was able to back to her foster home with her puppies. She actually delivered the last puppy in the backseat on the way home! Even while nursing her puppies and that nagging ear pain, her sweet disposition remained.
Her beautiful brindle babies (all with Golden Girls names) found loving homes. Betty was finally able to be spayed. Although so much sagging remains the vet recommend some ‘under boob’ wipes for summertime!
The final step to her recovery was her ears. The years of ear infections were beyond normal treatment. Both years needed ear ablation surgeries at Nashville Vet Specialists. By removing the ear canals, it also removed the source of years of pain. While mostly deaf, she responds to some sound because dogs sense vibration thru their jaws. The two surgeries were $6,000.
Moving Forward:
Like Betty White’s namesake, she plans to make the most of her golden years.
Betty White has the sweetest face with very expressive eyebrows. Everyone she meets just loves her. She loves face and booty scratches. She will seek you out in the bathroom. Her most impressive trick is sitting nicely on the couch while her foster mom eats dinner. She is completely housebroken. She has access to the house while her foster mom is at work. She is great on a leash and loves going for a walk. She checks in with every person she passes on walks to see if they want to pet her. She should be an only dog or tested with a with a chill dog. She does great her black lab foster sister. It took a few months’ transition to live with a cat, but now they lay on the same couch oblivious to each other. She will snatch treats when possible, so should be in a house without small children.
Betty will need to remain on Apoquel for her allergies. This medication is around $100 a month.
