***Courtesy Listing - all inquiries will be forwarded*** Meet Shiloh. He is a full blooded Beagle. As you can plainly see, he’s quite a healthy weight. He is currently weighing 58 pounds but is quite healthy for such an overweight dog. Shiloh has been my pet for almost 6 years. He is fully vetted and has been neutered. Shiloh has food aggression issues and needs to be re-homed due to these issues. He will get into any dog food that he can. If adopted, he needs 3 things to help with these issues. 1. He needs to have his food put either where he can’t reach it or into a container that he cannot tear through. If he gets ahold of the dog food, he will eat until he can’t possibly eat another bite. 2. He needs a home with NO children. Shiloh recently bit my 9 year old daughter in the foot. He had his face buried in the dog food bag and she was trying to get him away from it…even though we’ve told her not to be the one to do this, let an adult handle it. He scratched her foot and left a small puncture wound on her foot. So, he needs a home with NO children. 3. He also needs a home with NO other dogs. Shiloh’s food aggression stems from the fear that someone or something is going to take his food away from him. Our vet has repeatedly told us that this is a common issue with Beagles. He has another common trait of Beagles that also adds to his weight issues…he eats poop. However, this can be taken care of with a powder the vet carries. It did not work in our house because we have foster dogs or puppies and have many other dogs of our own and there was no way to treat the poop of all dogs. However, if Shiloh is the only dog in your home, it can be treated with this method since his poop will be the only poop of concern.
Now, on to the positive side of Shiloh. He is a SUPER loving boy. He loves nothing more than to lie at your feet and have his ears scratched and rubbed. Obviously, he LOVES food of all kinds. He’s not a picky eater at all. He likes frozen vegetables, which helps in reining in his diet. He also likes fresh baby carrots. He will eat a salad, believe it or not. Shiloh is a loving, good hearted boy and will make a GREAT pet for anyone with no kids or other dogs. He has SO much love to give if someone can give him that chance. He doesn’t have issues with other dogs, just when it comes to food and other dogs. He loves kids, just not around his food. He really is a loving boy and smiles all the time. I hope someone will give him a chance…he’s so worth it.
